  • Over the weekend, emergency services responded to a fatal road incident in Thailand’s Kampaengphet where a rented van had crashed into a roadside tree, killing eleven people and injuring four others. Rescuers fought to extinguish the fire which broke out on impact and to extract nine bodies, including the driver, and six other injured passengers. Two of them died later in hospital. Police said fifteen people, including fourteen Myanmar migrant workers, hired the van from Phetchaburi to the border town of Mae Sod, and they initially believe that the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel or the van lost control due to heavy rain. Police continue to investigate.
